Choosing the right Car Insurance
Choosing the auto insurance that is right for you can be difficult. Usually, the more the company offers,
the more expensive the insurance is and you can be confused as to how much cover you really need. This article
looks closely at different types of car insurance and can help you to make an informed decision on the type of cover
you choose.
Generally, an insurer will offer three different groups of auto insurance.
These are: comprehensive car insurance; third-party property damage insurance and third-party property damage insurance plus fire and theft cover. These different packages offer different amounts of cover which are generally related to their price.
Firstly, comprehensive car insurance is the most expensive as it covers any damage to your car as well as your personal property.
Comprehensive insurance will pay for your car and the other driver’s car to be repaired in the event of an accident.
Third-party insurance covers the damage to another person’s car in the event of an accident, with the third-party fire and theft car
insurance covering the same as third-party insurance and also up to around $10,000 worth of damage to your car by fire or theft –
you may need additional cover should you car be of high value.
Before deciding on a company, it may be advised to make sure you know exactly what the policy covers as some companies will not cover
damage to special equipment in your vehicle such as a satellite navigation system. Other companies however will offer compensation for any lost or damaged belongings in the form of a flat lump sum (cheque).
If you are one of the unfortunate few who have been in a major car accident, you will know that the car cannot always be repaired.
In this circumstance, insurance companies will give you the market value for you car in the form of a lump sum that can be offset against
your written-off car. If your car can be repaired, however, many insurance companies will provide you with a courtesy car until your car has
been fixed. If you could benefit with this offer, checking if this is included in your policy could be worthwhile.
The last thing you have to consider is: do you need breakdown cover? If so, another question to ask yourself is what kind of breakdown cover
is right for you? Since Australia is basically a continent in itself, the last thing you want is for you and your family to be left stranded
in the outback. Breakdown cover will ensure that a team is dispatched to you in the event of a breakdown and they will attempt to fix the problem
at the road side. If the car cannot be repaired immediately, some insurers will even provide you with a temporary form of travel to get back
home whilst your car is towed away for repair.
Car insurance may be expensive but the security of your wellbeing is far more important. Choosing the right cover is vital
and varies from person to person; always remember to put a lot of thought into your car insurance before making your final decision.
